José Hernández

Associate General Counsel, Sabre Holdings

José J. Hernández has practiced technology law in Latin America for the past 20 years. Fourteen of those years have been with Sabre Holdings as Associate General Counsel for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Previously, José served as Senior Attorney for Latin America North for Electronic Data Systems (EDS, now HP). At Sabre, José handles much of the negotiation with Latin American airlines in connection with Sabre's suite of products and services for the operation of a carrier, including management of the carrier's reservation system and many individual products services for efficient operation of the carrier.

Additionally, José is involved in transactions with travel agencies using the Sabre system, along with regulatory and dispute resolution processes affecting Sabre in the region. At EDS, José was lead counsel on a number of major technology outsourcing transactions for Mexico-based businesses, such as Vitro Glass, GNP and many others.

José started his legal career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company (now AT&T) in San Antonio, Texas, with a focus on labor and employment law and general litigation. He has served as counsel with private firms as well as with state and federal governmental agencies.

A native of Matanzas, Cuba, José and his family moved to the United States when he was eight years old. At the age of 10, José and his family settled in Oklahoma, where he graduated from Oklahoma City University, magna cum laude, and received his law degree from the University of Tulsa College of Law.

Having grown up in the "heartland" of the United States in a very Latino family, José views his deep understanding of Latin American and U.S. cultures as one of his greatest assets in effective representation of U.S. companies in Latin America.
